: Karangasem Regency
This regency dominated by the towering presence of Mt Agung (3142 m),
the island's most sacred and highest volcano, whose foothills and lave
flows provide some of the most spectacular landscapes. Pura Besakih
, the Bali's most important and best-kept temple, is located in this regency.
This temple consist of about 30 separate temples in seven terraces that
ascend up the hill. It lies at an altitude of 900 meters on the southwestern
slope of the mountain, offering spectacular views.
Padang Bai is the major harbor for the ferry service to Lombok.
Candi Dasa, a new but rapidly growing beach resort, with black sand.
There is seaside resort with full range hotels, home-stays, disco-bars,
moneychanger, shops and restaurants. Candidasa enjoys cool breezes and
is a good resting point for trips to the east and north.
Teganan village, is the only place in Indonesia where double-weaving
ikat, Geringsing, is produced. This village is also famous for
its lontar sacred books, traditional Balinese palm-leaf books.
