Legong Dance

The Legong, perhaps the most famous of Balis's dances. It is also by far the most exquisite. According to legend, it is created in the mid-18th century by I Dewa Agung Made Karna, the king of Sukawati . He was meditating for 40 days and nights in the Yogan Agung temple in Ketewel and saw two dancing celestial angles. When he finished his meditations, he passed on what he had seen and heard to his court dancers and musicians. The Sanghyang Legong was born.
