The Gili Islands
The three Gilis - Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air - just off the west coast of Lombok, are beautiful little sandy islands that have become a favorite destination for sun-bathing, frisbee tossing and other low-impact seashore sports. The Gilis are close to Bali, just a cheap ferry ride or short flight from Bali, and are particularly popular with young, European tourists. The Gili sites are excellent for less experienced divers; most dives were in very calm water, no deeper than 18 meters. Gili Trawangan and Gili Air have quite good reefs. The best time to dive the Gilis is from late April to late August. Visibility averaged 15 meters. You can find luxury accomodations in Senggigi beach on the mainland, this is an hour ride from the islands.
