BALI TOURS

Kecak Dance and Dinner (4 hours)
The hair-raising sounds and rhythms of the kecak form the most lasting, haunting memory for many visitors to Bali. Men and boys sitting in concentric circles slide into trance as they chant and sing in lively counterpoint, the only music to accompany a dance re-enactment from the Hindu epic Ramayana. Eerie shadows cast by the light of torches and the totality the sound of this chorus of human voices - make for an evening not soon to be forgotten. Dance performance followed by a sumptuous Balinese Dinner served in the Sanur Beach area.

Uluwatu and Kuta Shopping
A half-day tour with a visit to the Pura Luhur Uluwatu and main shopping areas of Kuta. A visit to Bali's dramatic Pura Luhur Uluwatu. Believed to date from the 16th century, this temple is perched on a limestone point suspended some 825 feet over the roaring Indian Ocean. From the sacred to the profane as this also includes a visit to Kuta shopping areas.

City Tour (6 hours)
On an island where every craftsman is an artist and his handywork are seen as offerings to the Gods - Bali's architecture, from temples to modern hotels - all bear closer examination. Bali's well-planned campus of government offices, built in a neo-Bali architectural style, sits next to the bustling and vibrant business district of the island's main city. Visit the morning market, which most locals still prefer over the local supermarkets. The Denpasar Museum sits on the edge of Puputan Square and houses a collection dating from prehistoric times (closed on Mondays). Also included is a visit to the Art Center with its fine collection of local handicrafts and paintings. We'll also include a visit to a local Batik Home Industry centre to see the intricate wax dying methods used to produce these world famous Indonesian fabrics.

Thousand Temples Tour (6 hours)
Bali has been called the "island of a thousand temples." This program visits some of Bali's most sacred and picturesque temples. A half-day tour with a visit first at the Royal Temple of Taman Ayun at Mengwi. Built in 17th century, this impressive and spacious temple is surrounded by a wide moat, creating the sensation of standing in the middle of a lake. The temple itself has three ascending courtyards, each representing an increasing level of perfection in the Bali Hindu cosmos. Later, a visit to Alas Kedaton Holy Monkey Forest, where hundreds of "tame" and very mischievous monkeys live in the forest surrounding the temple. The final stop of the day will be at the dramatic Tanah Lot sea temple. This is one of the splendid temples in Bali. Perching atop an enormous rock, it is completely surrounded by the waters of the Indian Ocean during high tide. Don't miss this opportunity to watch the sunset over this temple, pictured above.

Countryside Tour (5 hours)
Bali has been described as "one big sculpture". Verdant terraces, scultured a thousand years ago, are still planted, and lovingly cared for by hand. Join us to see Bali's living rice basket. Rice fields are exquisitely carved out of hills and valleys, sparkling with water or the bright green of a promised rice harvest. Bali's temples are a ubiquitous sight on the island: there are at least 20,000 temples in Bali - small and big, old and new, family temples, farmer temples, village temples, and Royal temples. Also of interest is the Balinese family compound. Each compound consists of a few small "buildings", whose position, size and even those entitled to their use all laid down by time-honored tradition. This tour will also go to Sebatu, site of a holy spring temple with picturesque rice-fields along the way in Tegalalang and Singapadu.

Ubud Art Tour (5 hours)
In the 1900's, Walter Spies, Rudolf Bonnet, Charlie Chaplin and Noel Coward were just some of the travelers seduced by the laid-back, bohemian style of Bali's cool, hill-side artist's colony. For centuries iconoclastic artists and craftsmen were exiled by Bali's rulers Ubud. As a result, new styles of painting and dance have traditional made their premier in this village of free spirits - both locally bread and European born. This tour includes the workshops and galleries of some of Ubud's finest craftsmen. Celuk, home of the silver and gold works industry; Mas - Bali's woodcarving village and Ubud, centre of the Balinese paintings.

Tanah Lot Sea Temple
Bali most photographed temple sits in a west coats bay chosen by Hindu Priests nearly 1,000 years ago. A half-day tour with a visit to the dramatic Tanah Lot sea temple. This is one of the splendid temples in Bali. Perching atop an enormous rock, it is completely surrounded by the waters of the Indian Ocean during high tide. Don't miss this opportunity to watch the sunset over this temple, pictured above.

Join the birds "behind bars" and step into the huge tropical aviaries. After the bird park, a visit to Singapadu and Mas - centers of silver and wood working, before continuing on to the village of Ubud and its central market and the sacred monkey forest.

Literally a volcano within a volcano, visitors can drive along the rim of a 8km wide caldera while looking across the still active Mt. Batur still spouting lava and slowly building new height.

This tour begins with a morning visit to a traditional Barong Dance - a classic dance-drama portraying the eternal struggle between the good and evil - the religious and the profane - ending when a group of entranced men run amok and try to stab themselves only to be rescued from their frenzy by a local priest able to break their spells with holy water.
